While on a trip to the Submarine Force Museum in Connecticut, I happened upon a laser cut wooden image of a submarine, with phenomenal cutaway detail. I loved it. I'm not a huge submarine fan though and it was very expensive. Instead, I took inspiration from it and decided my new camper would be a worthy subject.
Using the real van as a reference I set about drawing a detailed, multi-layered vector image in Illustrator. It was a deeply satisfying project combining my love of technical precision with my love of art. The results were amazing. Even with a couple small errors I created a very unique and highly detailed art piece. So far I've only made the one, but I've considered selling it to other fans of the VW camper.
It was an art style I found very rewarding and I intend to do more with it in the future.
