Another passion of mine is personal luggage, such as bags, pouches and utility belts. Finding new laptop bags and backpacks and tool belts and all sorts of things like that has been something I very much enjoy. Being unsatisfied with the current selection of utility belts, which was very small, I decided to design and build my own. I spent a great deal of time researching fabric choices, straps, clasps and such as well as designing and redesigning how I thought they would look and function.

I completed my prototype utility belt in June 2013. It was functional but quite rough. As a proof-of-concept it worked perfectly. My ideas seemed sound and my fabrication, while novice, appeared to work. I was ready to expand my scope and for Christmas my son received his own utility belt which was far better than the one I had made myself. My daughter received a small purse/bag of my own design fitted to her 3DS with room for other small things a 9 year old girl carries.

Next came a hip bag/purse for my wife based on a Haiku bag she already had but modified to fit her Kindle. Most recently I rebuilt my own utility belt using all I had learned. It is excellent and exactly what I was looking for. I have designs for a small tablet bag and some other ideas. I think my next challenge will be creating a holster for my son's airsoft gun before he heads off to airsoft camp this summer.
